Welcome to Class 3! Every minute is a learning minute and in our class we work hard, persevere and show resilience in all of our work; while showing respect, encourage each other and work as a team to reach our full potential and beyond! Being happy, enjoyment in lessons and learning from our mistakes is something I hope for in each and every child every day.

On Friday your child will be set an English and a Maths piece of homework. We ask that this homework is completed for the following Thursday. You can either send me a photograph of the completed work via Seesaw or send the piece of homework into school.
It is more important than ever that learning is supported at home, both to recover lost learning from absences and to consolidate learning that has taken place in schools during the week.

Spellings
New spellings are given out weekly on a Monday and tested on Friday. In class 3, we are streaming our Spelling/Phonics groups alongside Class 2; this is so we can maximise the use of all available adults and tailor our teaching to the children’s needs. I would always encourage children to learn the spelling rule and not just the list of words. Writing the words in sentences will also help with learning the rule/spelling pattern, as well as brush up on basic writing skills.

Reading

Children are expected to read five times a week for at least 30 minutes (extra reading at the weekend would also be beneficial). Some reading should be independent, however it is important that the children continue to share their reading experiences with adults too. Reading books will be swapped on Mondays.

Maths 
I cannot stress the importance of how much we need to have quick, rapid recall of basic number facts such as number bonds to 10/20/100 as well as times table facts, which will help us every day in our Maths lessons. Times Table Rockstars (TTRS) is a FANTASTIC way to practise these skills and increase recall speed of facts. Please make sure you are accessing TTRS as much as possible at home- if you have lost/forgotten your username/password/pin, please let me know.
